As positive reactions continue to trail the organisation of a football tournament for public primary schools in Odeda local government areas of Ogun state,the sponsor of the game,Hon. Segun Elemide says his intention is to catch talents in his local government, young.
Hon Elemide representing Odeda in the state legislature said this while speaking with newsmen shortly after watching one of the matches in the tournament.
“I decided to put my resources into the project to engage our youths positively because an idle hand is the devil’s workshop” Elemide said, as he expressed disgust that most youths in the society engage in non profitable ventures because nobody engages them in meaningful activities,at the grassroots.
The Lawmaker who promised not to relent in his efforts at making youths,leaders of tomorrow, said he planned to extend the tournament to secondary level in the local government,to fish out talents that could represent the country in soccer.
“In Odeda local government, most of our primary schools have football fields and I believe what I can do is to complement the efforts of our games masters in our schools by making a football tournament, come to fruition in the local government and that is just what I have done” Elemide added.
He said the football competition would bring out the best in the youths ,adding that it was high time parents gave their children the needed support to improve their soccer prowess.
No fewer that forty primary schools from Ilugun ,Odeda and Opeji zones took part in t he game fiesta which final will be played,Tuesday 22nd of march.
To get to the final stage,Ilupeju Alagbede pumelled Agbede FUNNAB via penalty kicks while Fadage trounced Itesi Ajegunle by 3-0
