OLUBADAN LAID TO REST AT POPOYEMOJA PALACE

The Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji,has been  buried this evening, earlier, Adeola Oloko,Director of Media and Publicity, Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Oloko formally announced the passing of Oba Adetunji, Ajeogungunuso 1 who died today at UCH,ibadan.  The monarch was interred at his Popoyemoja, Ibadan Palace according to muslim rites.

At Mapo Hall, Ibadan, venue of fidau prayer for peaceful repose of his soul, mammoth crowd surged into the area join the prayer.
“The 41st Olubadan of Ibadanland, and Chairman, Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso 1 has joined his ancestor.
“Oba Adetunji, 93, passed away in the early hours of this morning at the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan.
“He is survived by his wife, Olori Rashidat Ololade Adetunji, Children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
“He will be buried at 4.00 pm today at his Popoyemoja, Ibadan Palace according to Muslim rites. Other things follow later.”
Director of Media and Publicity, Adeola Oloko, titled, “Olubadan passes on, to be buried today,” Oloko stated.
Meanwhile, permutations have since commenced regarding the likely successor of Oba Adetunji.
Already, the Otun Olubadan of Ibadan land, Senator Lekan Balogun’s name keeps popping up as next in line as the Olubadan of Ibadan according to the laid down hierarchy of ascension to the Ibadan throne.

The hierarchical arrangement in the Ibadan system shows a two line approach, the Balogun system and the Olubadan (Otun) system.
Olubadans are appointed on rotational basis to occupy the stool on the death of a monarch. The next to Olubadan and most senior on both lines are the Otun Olubadan and Balogun.
Oba Saliu Adetunji was crowned the 41st Olubadan of Ibadan following his coronation on March 4, 2016.
Prior to his coronation, Oba Adetunji was the Balogun of Ibadan land which indicates that the Otun Olubadan, Senator Lekan Balogun may be next in line according to the rotational system.
Oba Adetunji died in the early hours of Sunday at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan, Oyo state at the age of 93.
