An up and doing Nollywood actor, Waheed Folari n has disclosed how a movie, ABAMETA saved him from maltreatment and deportation the first time he travelled outside Nigeria.

Waheed, who joined the film industry over a decade ago, said the allure of seeing actors in his area in iberekodo, Abeokuta North area of Ogun State, on the invitation of the late iconic thespian, Pa AKin Ogungbe, for rehearsal and acting which he saw them doing, spurred his interest to become an actor.

“One of the sons of the late Akin Ogungbe, Idowu Ogungbe, also late, was my boss. He taught me stagecraft and acting”.

On what has been his experience and benefits of being an actor, he said” I travelled to Malaysia in 2011, on getting to the airport in Kualalumpur, we discovered that Nigerians we’re being hounded, taking them to one room and collecting their passports and From there to another room and straight to deportation camp

“I saw grown up men crying, I was like.. Oh my God, all the money I had expended on this journey, is this how is going to be wasted? A female immigration officer who interrogated me, asked ” who are you? I told her my name . She asked why am I in Malaysia and what i do for living.

” I am an acto” I answered.r. An actor, you make films? She replied . I said ” Yes. I have come to explore and know more about the country on a visiting visa”

” what film have you featured in? I told her ABAMETA,she typed it on the laptop in front of her and pronto, it brought up my face.

“luckily for me, I also had the cd jacket of the film in my bag,.I gave it to her as well. She held on to my passport and after discussing with two of her male colleagues, I was given my passport and was allowed to into the country”.

” “ABAMETA was produced in 2010 and released in 2011.. I co- starred along with Gabriel Afolayan,Olaniyi Afonja(Sanyeri).

The young thespian who also produced ILE- EKO and acted in many yoruba and english movies such as Window produced by Isaac Samuel, The Indoor produced by Mojisola Adebayo,, disclosed that he is currently working on a film titled ” TYRONE.”

“The title of the film is coined from the names of the three lead actors in the film. We are at the post production stage and by the grace of God, it will be at the cinema by end of this year or early 2022”

The actor, who said he has no role model in the industry, added that all actors doing greatly in Nollywood are his role models as he always strive to be great like them.
