ABIODUN PAYS RETIREES WITH #500M GRATUITY, RESTATES COMMITMENT TO IMPROVED WORKERS’ WELFARE

In fulfilment of the current administration ”s promise in Ogun state to alway make workers welfare its priority, Governor Dapo Abiodun has paid the sum of #500M to retirees of state and Local Governments in the state.

Speaking at the presentation of cheques to the pensoners held on Wednesday at the Cultural Center Abeokuta, Gov. Abiodun said the current administration would improve on the welfare of pensioners in appreciation of their meritorious service to the state.

Abiodun who described the presentation as symbolic,added that the present administration is determined in keeping promises to workers and would not renege on its words to the entire workers in the State.

The Governor explained that the payment was long over due, adding that”my eyes was swollen with tears when I was informed that 2011/12,2013/2014 retirees were yet to receive their gratuities on behalf of past administration I apologized to all of you”

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Pensions, Mr. Sodeinde Olukunle thanked Gov.Abiodun for keeping his promise to workers, adding that prompt payment of monthly deductions is a welcome development.

The chairman of the State Nigerian Union of Pensioners, Comrade Waheed Oloyede implored Gov.Abiodun to increase the #500M quarerly provision to #1bn.

He described the Governor as a promise keeper for releasing the money to the retirees which they have been looking forward to for many years.

About 257 pensioners were given their cheques at the event.
